11-year-old Connor Fitz-Gerald is being called a hero after saving a 5-year-old girl from being buried alive!

Connor was playing in the Marina Dunes when he noticed something terrifying. A small girl was buried alive in a small sand tunnel she was building. The 5-year-old girl, Alyssa Bostic was digging when the entire thing collapse on her, trapping her for several minutes.

The boy quickly ran to her and began digging her out. Shortly after she went under, he uncovered her head and moved to the rest of her body. Once out, Connor realized that she was unconscious and had sand in her eyes, nose, and mouth. Without having any training, Connor immediately began CPR on the girl’s lifeless body – miraculously she came back!

screen-shot-2016-10-07-at-10-27-10-amThe 11-year-old only knew about CPR from videos and TV shows, but since the parents were over a quarter mile away, he had to act.

“I am glad he was able to sit back and go, wait a minute somethings going on, there’s not a parent here, I know they’re at least a quarter mile away, I need to do something,” Connor’s father, Tim Fitz-Gerald said.

By the time the adults arrived, the girl was awake and the EMT’s were called. After accessing the scene, emergency workers said that without Connor’s actions, the little event could have been critical or even fatal.

News reports say that Alyssa is making a full recovery and her hero was given the National Youth Hero Award by the American Legion Auxiliary.
