During the Boston Marathon bombing, Roseann Sdoia was not expecting to find love, as she had just had her leg blown off. She was frightened and scared, but firefighter Mike Materia came to her aid, and that’s all it took.

“She was like, ‘Oh, did you see that firefighter? He’s so cute.’ And I was like, ‘Mom, I just got blown up.’ “ said Sdoia, recalling what her mother had said to her when they had first met Materia.

Sdoia, 48, was among the many people spectating near the finish line when the bombs had gone off, and as soon as they had, Materia rushed to her aid.

He was with her during the ride to the hospital, and comforted her the whole way.

“I asked him if I was going to die. And he told me that I was going to be OK, that I only had a flesh wound,” said Sdoia.

Materia then came back to visit her in the hospital a few days later, and before they knew it, they were on their first date in June of 2013.

Now, the couple got engaged last month, with the help of their little pup, Sal. Materia proposed on a lookout deck at the island’s whaling museum, and of course, she said yes to marrying her hero.

Materia and Sdoia…

The couple are also releasing a book in March called “Perfect Strangers”, which tells a story of four lives that crossed paths during the bombing.

We are so glad that they are now getting married, and will be able to spend the rest of their lives with one another! They have such an amazing story to tell, and we know it is going to be one emotional wedding day for Roseann! We wish them the best, and we hope you will SHARE this post to send them your best wishes as well!
